So far…
Our first stop in Nicaragua was at the charming colonial town of Leon where a few of the adventurous took the opportunity to do the world’s only volcano-boarding! We continued on to Granada, a pleasant step back in time with wonderful plazas situated on the shores of a lake which is home to the world’s only fresh-water sharks.
Costa Rica proved to be a favourite among many even with the guaranteed daily afternoon downpours. After a quick beach stop we headed to La Fortuna, an adventure playground with live volcano trekking, flying by zip-wire through the pristine jungle canopy, nature trails and boat journeys through the jungle. Amongst the animals spotted were sloths, caiman, Jesus Christ lizards, coati, parrots, raccoons and monkeys. We then headed for the pristine beaches of Manuel Antonio National Park and enjoyed a punch party and bonfire on a magnificent stretch of sand.
It was then into Panama, the halfway point in our journey! The Panama Canal is an amazing site best viewed aboard the tourist boat which actually takes you through the whole canal, from the Pacific to the Atlantic, over a 9 hour period. Incredible!
Everybody has now departed for the break in the expedition while our truck gets shipped to Venezuela. Cuba has proved to be a popular holiday destination for the break while others have enrolled in Spanish speaking school in Colombia. Disfrute!
Soon we begin the South American part of our adventure!
Until next time…
