So Far…

Our first taste of Central America has been wonderful to say the least.

Mexico is a fascinating country.  The people have been nothing but friendly, courteous and very welcoming, not to mention possessing a very laid back and relaxed attitude -  Not a lot of stressing going on around these parts.

Baja California was postcard perfect with the turquoise colored water and pristine white sandy beaches.

The food has been very different from our usual local fare as well.  We are now in the land of rich, ripe exotic fruit.  Melons of every variety, avocadoes, mangos and pineapples to name a few are now part of our daily diet.

Burritos, Tacos, Enchiladas and tortillas are regularly on the lunch menu.  Everything is freshly made and brought from local market stalls and it couldn’t be better.  To all those who are wondering if Mexican food is the same as back home – it is and it isn’t.  Although the actual ingredients are the same, the flavor is different.  All of the chili sauces and salsas are made fresh each day, so everything is just ‘that much better’.

From the Baja we took a ferry crossing over to the mainland arriving in Los Mochis where many took the spectacular and famed Chihuahua El Pacifico train ride through the Copper Canyon and overnighted in the small village of Creel.  This also gave an insight into how the locals still lived traditionally in the mountains today.

From here were made our way south into Mexico’s heartland, stopping off at the cobble stoned town of Zacatecas, the amazing Aztec Pyramids and then it was on to the hustle and bustle of Mexico City!

This was a wonderful city – a complete surprise!  Instead of finding utter chaos in the world’s largest city (which we were expecting).  What we found was one of the cleanest, orderly and historical cities most of us had ever been to .  It was a vibrant, colorful, exotic, fascinating place – you could easily spend a week here - no hassles, no problems and so so clean!

Carrying on South we took in the great little towns of Oaxaca and San Cristobel where now we are finding the opportunity to take in some of Mexico’s finest ruins.  This truly is a beautiful country, and the helpful, friendly locals make it very easy to travel through.

We´ve been sampling one or two Tequilas (as you do)!  Now headed back to the coast for some more beach time!

Loving Mexico!!!  Until next time…
